The Espaliex Surface Mount Hub Kit is easy to install and provides an elegant, stylish finish to your green wall project.

Vertical gardens are in vogue, enriching previously bare and boring walls. Train vines, jasmine and other climbers and bring you wall to life. Using minimal 48mm swage stud terminals and smooth 1x19 3.2mm stainless wire, this kit can create a 7x5 square pattern for training your plants along 5 horizontal wires and 7 vertical wires.

Strong enough for fruit tree espaliering. Mountable to masonry walls with the M8 through bolt.

Can support designs up to 3600mm x 2400mm. You can choose your own spacing between each of the hubs to suit your design. Some plants work better with 300mm spacing, some 400mm, and others with closer to 600mm for square designs, but you can do even less. Talk to your local nursery for advice on how far to space wires for the plants you are after, and where to position your design on your wall.

Instructions:

1. Mark fixing points on your wall for your hubs. Measure 400-600mm (according to your design) between each point. This is where the centre of your hubs will go and accordingly how far your wires will be spaced, so make sure your design and markings are right! Note: These hubs will only allow 90° angles.
2. Pre-drill into the wall with a 6mm timber drill bit (6.5mm for hardwood).
3. Screw the dual threaded coach screw into the wall with a hex driver bit.
4. Screw the base of the Espaliex 68mm Hub onto the dual threaded coach screw to install the hubs onto the wall. Make sure the height of the holes of the hub matches the hub on the other end on the design.
5. Measure the distance between the centres of the two outside hubs (centre-to-centre measurement). Subtract 66mm to obtain the length to cut the wire. Note: This is a median recommendation, always test to make sure it suits your project and the finished look you want.
6. Measure and cut the wire with wire cutters to according to your calculations.
7. Swage one end the wire into a swage stud terminal using a hydraulic swaging tool. The body of the swage stud terminal will not fit through the hole so do not swage both ends before installing. (Also, due to this requirement we do not factory swage for espalier.)
   Don’t have a swaging tool? Here’s an entry-level version. (Note: Mechanical swaging tools aren’t powerful enough to crimp stainless fittings, you will need a hydraulic swager.)
8. Install the swage stud terminal through one of the holes of the Espaliex 68mm Hub, loosely capping off with the hex and dome nut.
9. Thread the wire through any intermediate hubs.
10. Swage the other end of the wire into another swage stud terminal using the hydraulic swaging tool.
11. Install that swage stud terminal through one of the holes of the Espaliex 68mm Hub, loosely capping off with a hex and dome nut.
12. Create tension on the wire by holding the swage stud terminal with a multi-tool spanner while tightening the external hex nut with another spanner.
13. Lock the nuts into position, tightening them against the hub.
14. Cap off the ends by fixing the dome nuts into position.
15. Repeat for all your wires.
16. Celebrate!
