**Special Order** Decking Screws 10 Gauge 40mm Stainless Steel 304 - 1000qty
Description / **Special Order** Decking Screws 10 Gauge 40mm Stainless Steel 304 - 1000qty
These 10G x 40mm decking screws are often used for decks where thinner joists prevent the use of 50mm decking screws. Usually for timber no thicker than 19mm including both hardwood (pre-drilling essential) and softwood.
For heavy, wide or thicker boards, longer decking screws such as 50mm, 65mm or 75mm are recommended. Otherwise Batten Screws are often used in place of decking screws. They're stronger and usually higher guage (12G or 14G) and are more able to withstand environmental conditions that can bend or cup natural timber.
These decking screws screws meet Australian Standard AS3566.2, which means they're tested and exceed the corrosion resistant standards. Made from solid stainless steel 304 which is generally suitable for areas more than 300 metres from the ocean. Saline environments are highly corrosive and stainless steel 316 screws should be seriously considered for marine and beachfront applications.
These decking screws are suitable fixing a softwood or hardwood deck inland from the coast or it is not subjected to extensive pooling of water.
Available in 200qty trade packs.
Use with a #2 50mm square drive bit (not included).
We've supplied thousands of DIYers, carpenters and builders with timber decking screws for fixing timber to timber including hardwood to softwood, or hardwood to hardwood. Many customers will often toss up between decking screws or nails, but with increased popularity and reduced pricing, the decision making process is almost too easy.
Pre-drilling and countersinking when fixing hardwood boards to hardwood joists (or even softwood joists) is essential to ensure a smooth installation. Stainless steel is a softer metal and will more easily snap or heads will burr when encountering too much friction and resistance. A tool such as the SMART-BIT for pre-drilling and countersinking in one action will assist you to install the screws and also leave a nice clean finish.

Pre-Drilling and Countersinking
Building a deck is a reasonably time consuming process and with the repetitive tasks of driving in screws and pre-drilling/countersinking you want to be doing it right the first time. The SMART-BIT and CARBITOOL pre-drilling tools help in a number of ways:
- The drill holes provide a guide for the screws so they'll drive in straight each and everytime.
- The depth collar enables you to pre-drill to the same depth everytime, avoiding the hassle screws sitting as different depths in your timber.
- The SMART-BIT also helps you to avoid splitting your timber boards that may occur when driving screws in without pre-drilling, particularly at end of the board.
- The SMART-BIT also helps you to avoid untidy, and potentially hazardous (for bare feet) frayed splinters around the screw head.
